Civic Center
Goal: Culture Shaping | Core Value: Localism | Theme: Culture
Civic Center churches are “Heart of the Town” landmarks that anchor local identity.
Wesleyan Mission: To be the salt, leaven, and light within our local community: rooting ourselves in the historic heart of our city to cultivate a culture of mutual accountability and neighborly love that reflects the Kingdom of Heaven on earth.
Setting: Historic small towns with high walkability (e.g., Nevada City, CA).
Possible Strategy: Becoming the Town’s Living Room. This model works where there is a vacuum for modern social spaces. The church building serves as a venue for art shows, civil discourse, and non-profit meetings during the week.
Success Metric: Community Integration Score. Success is marked by the non-members that use the building. A felt sense of ownership in the church by the entire community, not just members, helps ensure the continued survival of the congregation.
Possible Growth Area: Emphasize Civic Utility. Offer the church as a place to apply their leadership skills and desire for local impact without the bureaucracy of local government.
